Story
Tom Harts blends stories of loss, doubt and lessons learned into deep, thought-provoking electronic soundscapes. Most of his music sees him focusing on taking the time to reflect upon and understand not just his life, but the lives of those around him as well. There are so many variables to being human and he wants to explore them in a never-ending goal to understand what makes us who we are. Taking cues from the likes of James Blake, Frank Ocean, Son Lux and SOHN, Tom Harts weaves together a mix of R&B, Folk and Electronica for dark, moody and even, at times, sultry music.
Growing up in a musical family, Tom picked up drums at a young age. The initial interest in drumming led him to join his high school’s marching band where he played quads on the drumline. That percussive background was a driving force when Tom Harts began to compose his own music at age 14. He always wanted to experiment with different rhythms and time signatures even in his early writing. Over the last decade, Tom has spent countless hours working on production techniques, sound design and creative ways of adding his voice to his music.
Tom Harts has been brought on as the head composer for the Illumination Gala in Chicago, had the honor of hosting sound design clinics at the University of Chicago High School’s ArtsFest, produced music for the Chicago Bulls Entertainment Network, and has received a degree in Digital Audio Recording Arts with an Audio Engineer concentration at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL.
